G'Day Bob
"Meets common ISP email sending requirements" refers to our ability to ensure that you do not go over any ISP mandated email limits. If your Hosting provider has a limit on the number of emails sent per day then you can specifiy this in the SM2 Email Marketing config and it will only send that many emails for a given message. If you send a second message on that day it will go over the limit however.
We do not do anything special to avoid being blacklisted as spam. That is up to the client. SM2 Email Marekting does not enter anything harmful into the Header of the emails it sends, and only enters a tracking image into HTML emails.
Sites are blacklisted as Spam generally due to the content of the email, which the client controls of course.
While we do allow you to import a list of subscribers, it is up to the client to ensure those subscribers what to be included in the lists. All of our messages included an unsubscribe link.
Hope this helps Tony
